THE PROJECT "Nautical Base Trapani"

The "Base Nautica Trapani" project aims to create a nautical hub, at the center of Mediterranean routes, to provide technical assistance, routine and extraordinary maintenance and refitting for yachting pleasure, and commercial boats, up to 70m in length. The project envisages, through the redevelopment of the Shipyard located in the Isolella area within the Port of Trapani, the provision of excellent services to serve high-end nautical pleasure craft, including the mooring of maxiyachts (up to 100m in length) and reception services for crews. The facility represents one of the hubs of the port network developed by the Marinedi Group, Italy's leading tourist port operator.

The Project is financed, through the Sicily Enterprise Emergency Fund, with POR - ERDF 2014-2020 funds.

The project aims to pursue the following objectives:

  • To increase the attractiveness of the Region of Sicily, and the province of Trapani in particular, for the nautical market, with particular regard to the superyacht segment (over 30mt in length);
  • To encourage the seasonal adjustment of mooring services offered in the regional area. Indeed, Sicily represents a destination of high interest for nautical tourism flows, although concentrated in the high summer season. Through excellent services in the field of maintenance and refitting, the Project aims to foster the attractiveness of the area for mooring services during the rest of the year as well;
  • Helping to increase the supply chain for the area from boating-related services;
  • Contribute to increasing the skills of the area, through training and development of specific skills in the field of boating and refitting, particularly of maxiyachts
  • Develop cutting-edge solutions to foster a sustainable approach to managing recreational boating services.

DESCRIPTION OF THE INTERVENTION

The new boatyard bordered on the north by Via A. Spanò, to the south with the Liberty Lines S.p.A. shipyard, to the east with Via Isola Zavorra, and to the west with the harbor water mirror, covers a maritime state property area of 75,782 m2 of which 15,070 m2 is water mirror and 60,721 m2 is land area. The water mirror has an average depth of about - 5 m above sea level.

Base Nautica Trapani is divided into two macro-zones designed to overcome architectural barriers:

  • the eastern macro -area, of entrance and service to the shipyard, where reception and management activities, training and research activities, and, finally, services and accommodation for staff and guests will be concentrated. Falling within this macro-zone is the green area located in the center of the shipyard and will be expanded to cover an area of 1,906 m2 from the current 502 m2, allowing the planting of new vegetation and the installation of outdoor furniture in order to create a true recreational area.
  • the western macro-zone, comprising in addition to the water area of the port, the North Yard for the parking and storage of pleasure craft and at which the dry port will be built, the South Yard for handling and processing, the latter served by the A1 shed, used as a welding and paint shop, and the A2 shed for the storage of 12-15 m l.f.t. boats.

A photovoltaic system is planned as part of the project, which will help reduce energy consumption from nonrenewable sources.

Finally, to serve small-scale boating, located mainly in the area, a dry harbor is planned for 76 recreational units between 5 and 7 m l.f.t. that will be located at the northwestern end of the state-owned area. Hauling/launching operations will be carried out by fork-lift.
